Upcy is Textilia’s initiative to do something concrete about the environmentally harmful throw-away culture and at the same time create new, trendy textiles and garments for the restaurant industry. Instead of burning or throwing away textiles, we upcycle them and create new chef’s jackets, shirts, aprons, washcloths, etc. with the goal of recycling 100% of our discarded textiles by 2025.
The chef jackets in the upcy collection are made from cotton table cloths that can no longer be used due to holes, permanent stains or because they are sewn incorrectly. They are created in a simple, timeless design with a chinese collar and shirt-like cut that has been developed in collaboration with Klaus Samsø and leading consultants from the restaurant industry.
The waiter shirts from upcy are made from discarded cotton sheets from our hotel customers. So when, for example, a hole or a stain means that a sheet can no longer be used for the hotelbed, then we cut the fabrics and sew up shirts from the remaining fabric. The result is extremely soft and comfortable shirts because the cotton has already been washed several times. Today we have several different designs to choose from, both in women’s and men’s models.
